Terms.

You pay once, FowlNote is yours to use on up to 3 Macs, and your notes are always yours.

Effective October 7, 2026. If this changes in a way that matters, this page will say so.

Your license

One payment buys a FowlNote license key. It includes every update and works on up to 3 Macs at a time. To move it to another Mac, remove it from one in Settings › About › License.

Please don’t share your key publicly or try to get around the license check.

The free trial

A new Mac gets 7 days of FowlNote with everything. If the trial ends without a license, FowlNote turns read-only: you can still open, search, copy, print and archive your notes, but not edit them or add new ones.

Buying through Polar

Polar sells FowlNote as the merchant of record. It runs checkout, takes payment, handles tax, and handles refunds under Polar’s buyer terms. If something is wrong with your purchase, message us and we’ll help.

Your notes are yours

Your notes are plain Markdown files on your Mac, and in your own iCloud if you sync. We don’t own them, see them or store them. What leaves your Mac is on the Privacy page.

Like any software, FowlNote can have bugs, so keep backups of anything you can’t lose.

AI features

AI features are off until you turn them on, and they run on a service you connect with your own account or key: ChatGPT, OpenAI or OpenRouter. Your use of that service, and what it costs, is between you and it, under its terms. AI answers can be wrong.

No warranty

FowlNote is provided as is. We work hard to make it reliable, but we can’t promise it will be free of bugs or right for every need. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for lost data or other indirect damages from using it, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law where you live.
